Village of Zovik (Mariovo) - Municipality of Novaci

Coordinates : 41.117335, 21.713520

The village of Zovik is located in the municipality of Novaci, 50 km from Bitola. In this village there is one of the most beautiful bridges in this area called the Zovik Bridge.

During the First World War, the Macedonian Front line crossed the village. Today, we can see remnants of the war, such as trenches on the way to the Cebren Monastery, then next to the 17th century monastery St. Atanasij. In St. John's Church Nikola, located in the centre of the village, is home to the graves of the Bulgarian soldiers.

Recently, an ethnographic house was opened in the village: "At the bridge". As part of the ethnographic house, a World War I museum was built. The ethnographic house offers traditional Macedonian food and accommodation.

Since its independence in 1991, the name of the country as inscribed in the Macedonian Constitution is "Republic of Macedonia". Nevertheless, and for the purposes of recognition by international organisations and their Member States, the country has agreed to use the designation "former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia". It is under this name that the French Republic has recognised this State. On this website, for convenience of language, "the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" is referred to as the "Republic of Macedonia" or "Macedonia". This does not represent the position of France or Normandy.
