Village of Stravina (Mariovo) - Municipality of Novaci

Village of Stravina (Mariovo) - Municipality of Novaci

Coordinates : 41.089608, 21.734152

The village of Staravina is located in the Municipality of Novaci, 50 km from the town of Bitola. During the First World War, the Macedonian Front line crossed the village, and today we find vestiges and traces. At the entrance to the village there is an ossuary containing the remains of Serbian soldiers, called "Gorna Crkva". However, because of the villagers' opposition, the ossuary was never finished and is now abandoned at the village entrance.

In the centre of the village there are some trenches from the war. Here, and in the remains of villages in the Mariovo region, we find objects of war, used by locals in their homes.

How to get to the village of Stavarina:
The village of Staravine is located 50 km from the town of Bitola. 9 km is a dirt road. To get there, you can take a taxi or rent a vehicle.

Since its independence in 1991, the name of the country as inscribed in the Macedonian Constitution is "Republic of Macedonia". Nevertheless, and for the purposes of recognition by international organisations and their Member States, the country has agreed to use the designation "former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia". It is under this name that the French Republic has recognised this State. On this website, for convenience of language, "the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" is referred to as the "Republic of Macedonia" or "Macedonia". This does not represent the position of France or Normandy.
